Ross posted this to the FB group on 29 June, 2019. This guy Lluyd came up with the idea based on some tenous and incorrectly deduced links in languages and the label has stuck ever since. Next time someone says the Welsh, Scots or Irish are Celts just tell them that some b*****d (legal term) called Lluyd invented the idea and we have been stuck with it ever since. These nations were not referred to as Celtic before Lluyd!! WIKI QUOTE- <<Lhuyd noted the similarity between the two linguistic families: Brythonic or P–Celtic (Breton, Cornish and Welsh); and Goidelic or Q–Celtic (Irish, Manx and Scottish Gaelic). He argued that the Brythonic languages originated in Gaul (France), and the Goidelic languages in the Iberian Peninsula. He concluded that as the languages were of Celtic origin, the people who spoke them were Celts. From the 18th century, the peoples of Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales were known increasingly as Celts, and are regarded to this day as the modern Celtic nations.[3][4] >>
