So we now have the Columbus Paradox. Christopher C gets credit for pineapples in the 16th century, yet pineapples are shown on a wall mural in Pompeii, that was painted sometime before the 1st century. Pompeii was not the only town in Italy eating pineapples in the 1st century. What happened?
There was a complete loss of knowledge of the Americas, lost in 1645BC, when Thera erupted, and wiped out almost all life in the eastern Mediterranean. I gave examples of this in an essay a few years ago. But since then, apart from the comet of 562AD, there was no major catastrophe that would destroy past knowledge, and loss of a documented history. Was there a loss of knowledge at the fall of the Roman Empire, so that when Columbus sailed, it was like a new discovery of America all over again? I see a parallel here, with the Thera exploration.
